Unstoppable Identity: What's in Your Backpack?

Writer: Dovie MaldonadoDovie Maldonado

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

The Backpack of Life

Life comes with its share of responsibilities—things we willingly carry every day. Picture a backpack filled with the usual: being a wife, a mom, working in ministry, managing a job, nurturing friendships. These are the things that naturally come with life’s journey.

But then, there’s the added weight—the burdens we don’t always talk about. Maybe your backpack carries the weight of a rough upbringing, a struggling marriage, insecurity, a troubled child, or the pressures of daily life. Perhaps you’re carrying the emotional exhaustion of raising a child with learning disabilities or battling inner doubts that seem too heavy to lift.

And here’s the reality: the weight you carry affects how you walk through life.

The Heavy Burden of Insecurity

For a long time, insecurity shaped my emotions and my perspective. I know what it’s like to feel not enough—to compare myself to others, to battle jealousy and envy, to feel lost in sadness. Insecurity doesn’t just sit quietly; it speaks loud and clear, affecting our confidence, relationships, and even our faith.

But here’s the truth: we don’t have to carry this weight alone.

Unpacking the Backpack

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, if life feels impossibly heavy, let me ask you:

What’s in your backpack?

So often, we go through life weighed down by things we don’t even realize we’re carrying—fear, doubt, self-worth issues, past wounds. We push forward, hoping the weight will somehow get lighter, but it doesn’t. The only way to lighten the load is to unpack the backpack and deal with what’s inside.

This is where self-awareness and spiritual growth come in. We need to recognize what we’re carrying, and we need a guide—someone who can lead us through it. And the ultimate guide? God’s Word.

The Word: Our Guide to Freedom

The only way to replace the weight of insecurity with confidence is to know God’s truth—not just read it, but truly believe it. His Word tells us who we are:

• We are His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).

• We are chosen and dearly loved (Colossians 3:12).

• We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

• We are not alone in our struggles (Deuteronomy 31:8).

When we shift our inner dialogue from “I’m not enough” to “I am God’s masterpiece”, we start walking in the identity God has already given us.

Time to Unpack and Move Forward

So, what’s in your backpack? What unnecessary weight have you been carrying?

Maybe it’s time to lay it all at Jesus’ feet. Maybe it’s time to stop walking under the weight of insecurity, fear, or doubt and instead embrace the unstoppable identity God has given you.

You don’t have to carry this alone. Let God guide you, let His Word renew your mind, and start walking in the confidence of who you truly are.

Because you are His masterpiece.
